GLOBAL BRIDGES Remote Management Simulation
Remote Management is
cooperation across spatial distance
between various locations,
across borders, language and cultural barriers and time zones
Areas of application of the simulation GLOBAL BRIDGES
- In training programs on international project management
- In international roll-outs (area-wide)
- At the kick-off of an international project
- For the general expansion of knowledge and practice
in (international) cooperation
across distance, in order to be able to fulfill this global challenge
professionally
- Checklists are handed out covering the Remote
Management Simulation, which can
also be used at a later date in "real business life"

GLOBAL BRIDGES Short description of the simulation
- Free Form Game (the remote situation is simulated
using a telephone system, paper emails
or possibly with wireless LAN and laptops)
- There will be 3-4 teams and a project office from
differing countries spatially distanced
working together on the planning and execution of a bridge
construction project
working in such a way that they can only communicate remote by
phone or email.
Face-to-face meetings cost money, time and "nerves".
(stress factor)
- The project office has to manage a predetermined
budget, the deadline, the
clients, the line management, both internal and external customers
and the project teams.
- The project teams have to manage the interfaces
between themselves and the
project office as well as their budget and international purchasing.
- You kann change your role between managed and manager,
and between HQ
and subsidiary!!!
- In the debriefing sessions the specific challenges
to be faced in a remote working
situation are discussed and critical success factors and coping
strategies in remote
management are ascertained.
GLOBAL BRIDGES Learning Goals
- You will be sensitized to the particular challanges
of remote management (cooperation across
distance), learn about approaches for coping successfully and
train their application.
- You experience first-hand, how you as project
manager and / or project team member are to
manage a project remote (= across distance) as well as the international
and intercultural challenges
and practise effective remote management in all stages of the
project.
- By changing roles you will receive a deep insight
and understanding of the concerns and challenges
faced by both sides!
- After each simulation round you will ascertain the
most important learning experiences in such a way
as to better cope with future remote situations
